Buon Lunedi (Monday) to all. I hope your weekend was fun, relaxing and filled with many adventures. This week I am planning my fall recipes to share as the season is upon us and I am beginning to see the change in our local produce offerings to reflect the cooler temperatures ahead.
1. FOOD. Autunno (autumn) in Italia is filled with an abundance of local ingredients harvested from the summer gardens and more. This is the best time of year when my famiglia loves to visit Italia as the offerings are plentiful: chestnuts (castagne), tangerines, kiwi, lemons, apples, pomegranate, pears, grapes, olives and more.
This is the season where you will see the pressing of grapes into wine and olive harvests into olive oil as these fall ingredients are prepared for fermenting and preserving and enjoying in the future.
Vegetables like butternut squash and pumpkin will be seen in pasta, ravioli and risotto dishes as well as the incorporation of wild boar meat (cinghiale) into sauces and stews; a delicious, slightly gamey protein classic in the Tuscan region and other areas of Italia.
This is not easy to obtain here in the states (although a variety of wild boar is rumored to be running rampant in Texas and other southern states.) If you wish to try this wonderful protein this fall, research a reputable supplier online and be sure it is fresh and will be shipped directly to you for best flavor quality.
2. MUSICA. I am currently listening to a new radio station in my local area called The Link FM, that I really love. DJ Gabbi is playing a mix of old and new alternative, pop and rock and modern for adults like Dan and myself who listen and enjoy real music. Their playlist has music from Red Hands, Violent Femmes, Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men, Vertical Horizon, Beck, Cake and many more. If you are in the Naples/Fort Myers area, find this station and make it one of your new favorites. Check out new music from the bands above and find new songs to add to your current playlist.
3. ART. The world of art was around us this past Friday as Dan joined for the Sidney Berne Davis Art Center’s 5-Year Anniversary Retrospective. This group event included artists that had shown their collections throughout the years and Dan was chosen to be featured at this special opening event.
I loved watching the dancers perform as Dan sketched each beautiful movement, capturing the grace they portray in every pose. Check out the full collection of photos from this wonderful evening of art and creative talent on Dan’s Facebook art page.
4. FASHION. The key to fashion as a lovely mature women is sometimes very difficult to grasp for us girls. One of my personal challenges is finding style pieces that flatter my body type that do not feel to young or silly. I find myself struggling even more lately as the current fashion offerings are just not for me.
I recently found this article on StyleCaster that addresses this exact issue, so check it out for some of your own style inspiration this fall and winter. My favorite in this lot is Jenna Lyons, President of J. Crew as she has a style that suits my personal taste.
Ciao per adesso!
